we take the freedom from our children....

they start in a buggy though nobody needs a buggy...we can carry our kids..we are made for this.
less and less babies and children are breastfeeded....but they need to be breastfeeded...and not just for exactly 6 months....this is not the natures plan...
then they get this terrible mash all the time...they don't need that. it's a great way to waste money again...our daughter has never get a single jar of mash....people are wasting their money by buying this stuff. think for yourself don't let the industry let think for you!
then we put them away in a créche at the age of 7 or 8 months...they still need their parents at this age....its important for them to feel safe in the hands of their mother/father....they need a strong relationship to one special person at this age....where have all the grannies gone?
we take them their nature....the room to discover things...the way back home to where they feel safe.
have you ever seen a kid walking around in the city at the age of two??? or younger??? no...they all have to sit in their buggies. there are no children beyond the fenced playgrounds in the city. where have all the children gone? they are not part of our society really. why do cars, bikers, dogs have more rights then a child? why has it become so normal that there are no young children learning to walk beyond their families home or the playground?
children belong into the nature...they can develop best in the nature because they are a part of it. they define themselves through nature. they need to be free need to be a part of nature need to discover nature.
we don't care about them (though we think we do) anymore we get blind through commerce. children don't need courses they need trees, flowers, water, earth not in an unnatural way like in a playground. they need THE nature.
we think we're free but no one is free in this modern world anymore at least our children. not that many children would need antipsychotic drugs against ADHD if they would have more space more nature to develop in.
this is a mad world

krautrock and kraftwerk

we now have finished song 7.....nearly.... there are still some lyrics missing.
we've been spending the last two afternoons at the deutsche museum. it's great there!! perfect for lilian seeing her beloved "pfugzeig" meaning plane... and "duba" meaning helicopter. you can always put a smile on her face if you show her one of these.
so this was great...really inspiring as well.
i recently wrote a song with german lyrics.... never did that before. i don't feel at home singing in german language (this is in a way strange...i know). but this time it was great fun though. it's a crazy song...we'll put this online soon...maybe tonight. it's about the autobahn...."war on the autobahn". we've spent a lot of time on the autobahn 2006/2007 and there are so many idiots on the streets.... they shouldn't even get a driving license for a bike... their way of driving is so unbelievably dangerous...
- > you can find all new songs on the projects site...

we've been listening to lots of krautrock music and kraftwerk stuff lately.... they inspired generations of musicians all around the world (check them out...."neu!", "can"...etc... !!!!)

songs/news/things/art project

ohhhhok...just came back from studio....recorded guitars for new song 'sophie'. this piece of pop's bringing us down atm.... it was a great song when i wrote it a few weeks ago...now it's getting in a different direction which we don't want it to sound like...we keep it but we're going to work on other stuff now. next week is surely THE 'sophie' week and we can finish it. :)

if any of you readers are in london....the raskolnikov vid will be shown at artrocker club night. actually i don't know when....just go there every week :)...its a great club night! did a gig there 2007. was good...people were dancing on and off stage. and we had a great time with the staff when the club was already closed. had many drinks...the very first time my english sounded great! ;)
will tell some more tour stories soon. we'd been homeless for over a month that summer....had all our stuff with us in our white van. ahhh i'm getting sentimental.

ah, one more thing: we've been asked now a few times why we don't write in german.....it's because our stats tell us most people reading this blog are from uk, usa, argentina, japan, india, belgium, sweden, netherlands, brazil, france, ireland, marocco, russia, latvia, italy, korea, norway +++....
we hope all our german readers don't mind...BUT if you would like to know anything special about the band, records, gigs etc...please feel free to email in german!! 2010@thetasteband.com is the way to get in touch with us. we're sorry if we don't reply immediately....we have a whole lot of things to do....
hugs,
maria

recording

the last days we've been deep in the process of demoing. it's great to have our own little studio downstairs and be able to record any idea as soon as it pops into our minds. that's a totally different approach to creating a piece of music than we had while writing popularity. we have a lot of great music fragments waiting to become complete songs. as for me i find that the most difficult part in song-writing. when i hear a melody snippet, most of the time it immediately reminds me on something. the problem is i can't name it. it's more of an idea and it sometimes takes me weeks if not months to catch it and see it clearly. and while i'm trying to find out what that idea is i often slip on the wrong path and lose my way. so having the opportunity to record everything as fresh from my mind as possible helps keeping track of where i wanted to go originally. hope that made sense... it's not easy to describe a process that's in my point view to at least 50% directed from my subconsciousness. anyways i think we have some really amazing new songs in the pipeline and i hope to get some demos done that capture our idea of how they're supposed to be when they grow up (=when they're recorded properly later on).

projects

our first project-microsite is now online. there will be more to follow on and off. it's something we like to do besides our album and live work. it's just what comes to our minds and wants to come out. this time it's a hi-res video so it may take a while to load. alternatively you can download an ipod/iphone version by clicking here. or you watch a low-res version on youtube.
the video is called...

rehearsal room and new songs

hello there,
just came back from munich spending this wonderful sunny day eating sushi (no tuna of course!) and relaxing at  the english garden. a few days ago lilian started "jogging"! sooo cute. :) she seems to love running a lot.
we had to work again a bit on our rehearsal room the last few nights...improve the acoustics and installing a huge pinboard... its still a mess down there after all that work but we'll finish it soon again.
meanwhile i wrote some songs on my acoustic guitar. sounding already great... but it's always harder to finish a song than starting to write it. sometimes it takes weeks until you get it just the way you want it. we always have the goal to make a song that's on the one hand catchy but on the other hand it should have some changes/surprises in it that makes the song compelling in a strange and mysterious way. i'm totally into songs that don't give away the feeling they tend to give. a song that gives you that certain feeling (happiness, melancholy, moody whatever) without any cage to itself is most of the time to easy to listen to and gets boring after a while or sometimes even on first listening. it's good when you, as a listener, get the feeling "give me more of that!!". your feelings have to be stronger than the songs tendency. it's like that famous dream of escaping from somebody by runnig away but you're super slow. i love these kind of songs that have that little "not giving" in them. a lot of bands achieve this with the production...sounds etc. but it's even harder if you compose and present a song thats overwhelming without any extra sounds (just voice and one instrument or just an instrument and no voice). for me michael jackson was a genius in doing this with his voice. listen to thriller and you know what i mean. it's overwhelming how he plays with his voice and in reaction to that with the listeners feelings.
hope i didn't cause any confusion with my explanation of whats a good song to me.
have to go playing some memory now...

rainy days

we haven't been online for almost two years but there are still around 1000 people popping by every month. really cool!!
i'm sitting here in the dark writing down ideas for all the things that come up when you start working on the band project again. many great plans have been made already i'm very excited about the upcoming year. i came up with a cool rock riff yesterday while nick was playing with lilian upstairs. the verse is finished already...sounds good. lego is lilians favorite game to play atm. everything she plugs together is a pfugzeig (meaning - flugzeug - meaning plane). so sweet!
xx maria

ps: this is how i look like atm.

summer 09

we've been on holiday in former east germany in summer 09 with a small camper. to my shame i have to admit that i've never been there before (except berlin). we travelled over the country side... thueringen, sachsen, brandenburg. such a wonderful part of germany. you don't have to travel long distances causing pollution all the time. there are beautiful lakes in the east with no one there. just you and birds, fishes and three other campers you'll never see. :) they now have lots of wonderful lakes in the east because they flooded old open cast minings. (see pic above)

we also visited fran, nora and clay at their house in berlin and stayed there for a few days. this was the very first time i played the electric guitar since i gave birth to lilian. the perfect gift fran could give me. he is on holiday from travis right now and has a blog nick discovered a few days ago www.franhealy.com.

first ever post on new blog

lilian is just trying to walk with my big winter boots....nick is helping her ... really sweet! :)
it's wonderful having a baby it changes everything in your life! thats why you have heard really nothing from us in the past 1 1/2 years. we wanted to concentrate fully on this new adventure being mama and papa. we now start to have fun doing music again. so we started to create new plans, new music, a new webdesign and so on and so forth. everything is a big polaroid pic at the moment...just popping out of the camera. we'll see where this year will lead us to. you are welcome to join this little adventure.
