New Song / Two into One
hi everybody,
here is a new song called 'Two into One'. It's my most emotional song of all times.
it was quite hard to sing this without having tears in my eyes.
this song is dedicated to my wonderful grandmother. she died when i was only 7.
she took care of me in the morning from when i was sweet little 6 weeks old.
hugs to all of you

Lyrics:
//Two into One//
tears in my eyes i cried please take me with you
i feel the time has come
telephone's ringing i lost you you lost me
and still i do cry
oh could you just see her she's beautiful you'd miss her as i will do all my life
two into one well you are two into one
two into one we are all two into one and you're in me
i see you walking, the sun in your heart and i feel you close to me
i cried in the morning but you're there to hold me so softly in your soul
the door bell is ringing i hug you and see you soon then in the morning sun
two into one well you are two into one
two into one we are all two into one and you're in me

chris murphy / can't get enough of your dang-da-dang
2 1/2 years ago we licensed a song to a label called pistol records. they wanted 'can't get enough of your dang-da-dang' for their compilation 'fresh weird & wonderful'. released in 2007. i read in the news that they sold many many copies of it (in fact it peaked no. 8 on the US itunes album charts) and our song was the best sold track on the record in lots of countries including UK and the US. now guess what: we never got the money for those sales!!
the label was owned by a guy named chris murphy. he used to be the manager from inxs. maybe he reads this and pays us our money... probably 1.000.000 euros... :) so we can keep on doing music and go on tour to where we sold the song! we'd love to play in the united states, korea, japan and and and... its really cool so many people from different countries are reading this! i don't know how you came across the taste but it seems very likely you know us from that release. so there's at least a good side to this annoying story.
i have been to the US just once so far. i was in miami. it was cool.... when we got out of the airport the air felt so different. i was 18 and really excited!
nick used to live in new york city for a year. he studied drums there. very cool! what a pity we didn't know each other at that time... so i could have seen new york as well! i'd love to do a gig their. maybe sometimes. as soon as i get the money from mr murphy. hehe.
ah and he offered us to release an ep but we refused. luckily.

greenpeace/uranium/eco-power
my mum told me today she went to a lecture held by greenpeace.
she goes eco for more than 25 years! a very very clever woman my mum!
it was a about the mining of uranium for the nuclear power plants.
its so terrible what is happening in the countries where uranium gets stooped.
little kids are playing in the radioactive mud...and the ground-water gets embittered for tenthousands of years. and so many more bad things are happening there its terrible!
the industry claims that everything is save but its not!!! the miners die on lung cancer very early. we all live on a time bomb...there are massive amounts of radioactive material stored in shabby barrels. they are not stabled in special places...often they just stand somewhere in the nature. there is just NO good/safe way to get rid of uranium!
nick and me decided to buy eco-power since we have our own house.
we all should do that! go eco!
greenpeace said its nearly the only way we can do something about it!!! money rules the world and we can be the leader! we can!

the following years...
...i started to sing and sing and sing. everyday.... i spent hours and hours singing to all the records my dad had. at the age of 12 i started to listen to the beatles, wings and mc cartney solo stuff, billy joel, trio, creedence clearwater, peter paul & mary, the who, rolling stones + + +. as a kid you really burn music into your brain. you can never ever get it out of your head. at the age of 16 i started to play the guitar. i had piano lessons as a kid but it never really touched me so i stopped doing it when i was 15 or so. i started to compose some songs....one i did at the age of 16 was this one 'daydream'. bloody 16! haha. i did the lyrics with my dad. cool time!
xm
oh hey why not.....another song: sooooooo popyyyyy. haha. have fun listening! its with matthias link (guitar) and frank thumbach (bass)..... 'the other me'

a special music moment
everything started in 1991. i was 12 years old. i found some old tapes my dad had in a box. i inserted that special red tape in my cassette recorder and got back into my bed... it was a weekend and i quite often got back into my bed in the morning to listen to some kids tales on my cassette recorder. i listened and suddenly their was this song that touched me in a way a song never did before. i couldnt hold back my tears. after a good while my dad came to my bed and i asked him which song that was. he said it was john lennons 'woman'. it was such an impressive moment for me i still remember as it was just yesterday.

walking through a cornfield...
...is great. i walked through it today with lilian. it was nice she called it 'blätterhöhle' meaning leaf-cave. i didn't walk through one since i was a kid. :) i thought of taking a corncob with me but i didn't. now i can see from our living room that they harvest the corn...with floodlight. wow! and a bit sad as i didn't took one with me. :) no corn for lunch tomorrow...buahhhh.
we just made a fire.... its so relaxing! its such a fascinating element!
i think its a primal feeling... it makes us feel save...

favourite records
lilian just wanted to listen to phoenix "1901". once again. and again. and again... think i listened to that song (and the whole album) about a million times. she always picks the songs from our ipod touch herself. i still like it though. this made me think of writing a post about my favourite records of all times.
actually there are only two records which i consider "perfect" - meaning i can always listen to the whole record without having the urge to skip a track and without realising i wasn't really paying attention in the middle of a song. these two albums are "12 memories" by travis and "run to be born" by walking concert.
besides there are many more albums which i love and which are nearly "perfect", it's impossible to name all - i always forget some. so these are the ones that come to mind at the moment: "wolfgang amadeus phoenix" by phoenix, "quiet" by john scofield, "maestro" by kaizers orchestra, "the weight is a gift" by nada surf, "broken by soldiers" by the raconteurs, "in rainbows" and "ok computer" by radiohead, "first impressions of earth" by the strokes.

back in the nature
hello
....we're back in the nature.
it's the best place in the world for us atm. we stepped into the house this night....it was 3am or so.
we didn't speak to each other...we just followed the program...getting lilian in her bed and all the luggage into the house. then fell asleep within minutes. in the morning nick and me discovered that we felt the same about coming home yesterday. we both find it so relaxing here. the house has such a peaceful atmosphere. it's great being back.
yesterday we had a great day with two wonderful people. we were at a nice pasta place and after that we wandered around berlin...finding a spielplatz and then again walking around talking. the kids were having fun it was very cool!
it was good to be back on the road again....being inspired by a city although we didn't do any shows. it doesn't matter really if you like everything you see or feel or not... both is inspiring.
ps: if you like you can follow me on twitter....search for mariapattusch or thetasteband. i'm super new to that... i'm still learning actually.

indian restaurant/shakespears sommernachtstraum
we've been to some very good restaurants here in berlin the last few days. one was indian food...see picture...and today we went to a place to eat organic nudels...it was very delicious...actually i forgot the name....there were two white birds on a black wooden label... over the front door. its at schwedter strasse.
yesterday we spent a really long evening on a spielplatz. lilian loves schaukeln. the spielplatz was behind a wooden theatre where they played shakespears sommernachtstraum. it was a wonderful evening...seeing the actors from behind the scene...most people are nervous just before they enter the stage and their whole body reflects that. i'm very nervous too so i know what i'm talking about. after the show is very very cool cause you feel so relaxed (not if it was a bad night of course :) ).

sophie
just returned from a beautiful trip to the mountains and hey i'm in vacation mood so i'm giving you another one of our just-finished demos: it's called sophie. remember this post? it's sort of the song that started our work on album no. 2 off. it reflects a kind of schizophrenia throughout the new album just compare it to the other songs that we posted so far. still we think it all fits together pretty nicely. the song features 14 tracks of my handclapping and - world premiere!! - me singing.

demos in the bag
finished the last of our 11 demos we recorded throughout the last 4 weeks. we have a couple of more song fragments, don't know if they will make it on the record... the demos are now stored on our webserver, well hidden inside a magic theatre behind a secret door which may only be entered by madmen.
let's see what will happen with them now... find a label get them out go on tour play later with jools and letterman world domination...?! who knows. maybe no one will like it... but we don't care a lot, we think it's some excellent stuff!! now we hit the road for some days of vacation. to the sea!

ps: here's a song for you in the meantime which fits to marias latest post. it's called humanity.

we take the freedom from our children....
they start in a buggy though nobody needs a buggy...we can carry our kids..we are made for this.
less and less babies and children are breastfeeded....but they need to be breastfeeded...and not just for exactly 6 months....this is not the natures plan...
then they get this terrible mash all the time...they don't need that. it's a great way to waste money again...our daughter has never get a single jar of mash....people are wasting their money by buying this stuff. think for yourself don't let the industry let think for you!
then we put them away in a créche at the age of 7 or 8 months...they still need their parents at this age....its important for them to feel safe in the hands of their mother/father....they need a strong relationship to one special person at this age....where have all the grannies gone?
we take them their nature....the room to discover things...the way back home to where they feel safe.
have you ever seen a kid walking around in the city at the age of two??? or younger??? no...they all have to sit in their buggies. there are no children beyond the fenced playgrounds in the city. where have all the children gone? they are not part of our society really. why do cars, bikers, dogs have more rights then a child? why has it become so normal that there are no young children learning to walk beyond their families home or the playground?
children belong into the nature...they can develop best in the nature because they are a part of it. they define themselves through nature. they need to be free need to be a part of nature need to discover nature.
we don't care about them (though we think we do) anymore we get blind through commerce. children don't need courses they need trees, flowers, water, earth not in an unnatural way like in a playground. they need THE nature.
we think we're free but no one is free in this modern world anymore at least our children. not that many children would need antipsychotic drugs against ADHD if they would have more space more nature to develop in.
this is a mad world

krautrock and kraftwerk
we now have finished song 7.....nearly.... there are still some lyrics missing.
we've been spending the last two afternoons at the deutsche museum. it's great there!! perfect for lilian seeing her beloved "pfugzeig" meaning plane... and "duba" meaning helicopter. you can always put a smile on her face if you show her one of these.
so this was great...really inspiring as well.
i recently wrote a song with german lyrics.... never did that before. i don't feel at home singing in german language (this is in a way strange...i know). but this time it was great fun though. it's a crazy song...we'll put this online soon...maybe tonight. it's about the autobahn...."war on the autobahn". we've spent a lot of time on the autobahn 2006/2007 and there are so many idiots on the streets.... they shouldn't even get a driving license for a bike... their way of driving is so unbelievably dangerous...
- > you can find all new songs on the projects site...
we've been listening to lots of krautrock music and kraftwerk stuff lately.... they inspired generations of musicians all around the world (check them out...."neu!", "can"...etc... !!!!)

songs/news/things/art project
ohhhhok...just came back from studio....recorded guitars for new song 'sophie'. this piece of pop's bringing us down atm.... it was a great song when i wrote it a few weeks ago...now it's getting in a different direction which we don't want it to sound like...we keep it but we're going to work on other stuff now. next week is surely THE 'sophie' week and we can finish it. :)
if any of you readers are in london....the raskolnikov vid will be shown at artrocker club night. actually i don't know when....just go there every week :)...its a great club night! did a gig there 2007. was good...people were dancing on and off stage. and we had a great time with the staff when the club was already closed. had many drinks...the very first time my english sounded great! ;)
will tell some more tour stories soon. we'd been homeless for over a month that summer....had all our stuff with us in our white van. ahhh i'm getting sentimental.
ah, one more thing: we've been asked now a few times why we don't write in german.....it's because our stats tell us most people reading this blog are from uk, usa, argentina, japan, india, belgium, sweden, netherlands, brazil, france, ireland, marocco, russia, latvia, italy, korea, norway +++....
we hope all our german readers don't mind...BUT if you would like to know anything special about the band, records, gigs etc...please feel free to email in german!! 2010@thetasteband.com is the way to get in touch with us. we're sorry if we don't reply immediately....we have a whole lot of things to do....
hugs,
maria

recording
the last days we've been deep in the process of demoing. it's great to have our own little studio downstairs and be able to record any idea as soon as it pops into our minds. that's a totally different approach to creating a piece of music than we had while writing popularity. we have a lot of great music fragments waiting to become complete songs. as for me i find that the most difficult part in song-writing. when i hear a melody snippet, most of the time it immediately reminds me on something. the problem is i can't name it. it's more of an idea and it sometimes takes me weeks if not months to catch it and see it clearly. and while i'm trying to find out what that idea is i often slip on the wrong path and lose my way. so having the opportunity to record everything as fresh from my mind as possible helps keeping track of where i wanted to go originally. hope that made sense... it's not easy to describe a process that's in my point view to at least 50% directed from my subconsciousness. anyways i think we have some really amazing new songs in the pipeline and i hope to get some demos done that capture our idea of how they're supposed to be when they grow up (=when they're recorded properly later on).

projects
our first project-microsite is now online. there will be more to follow on and off. it's something we like to do besides our album and live work. it's just what comes to our minds and wants to come out. this time it's a hi-res video so it may take a while to load. alternatively you can download an ipod/iphone version by clicking here. or you watch a low-res version on youtube.
the video is called...

rehearsal room and new songs
hello there,
just came back from munich spending this wonderful sunny day eating sushi (no tuna of course!) and relaxing at the english garden. a few days ago lilian started "jogging"! sooo cute. :) she seems to love running a lot.
we had to work again a bit on our rehearsal room the last few nights...improve the acoustics and installing a huge pinboard... its still a mess down there after all that work but we'll finish it soon again.
meanwhile i wrote some songs on my acoustic guitar. sounding already great... but it's always harder to finish a song than starting to write it. sometimes it takes weeks until you get it just the way you want it. we always have the goal to make a song that's on the one hand catchy but on the other hand it should have some changes/surprises in it that makes the song compelling in a strange and mysterious way. i'm totally into songs that don't give away the feeling they tend to give. a song that gives you that certain feeling (happiness, melancholy, moody whatever) without any cage to itself is most of the time to easy to listen to and gets boring after a while or sometimes even on first listening. it's good when you, as a listener, get the feeling "give me more of that!!". your feelings have to be stronger than the songs tendency. it's like that famous dream of escaping from somebody by runnig away but you're super slow. i love these kind of songs that have that little "not giving" in them. a lot of bands achieve this with the production...sounds etc. but it's even harder if you compose and present a song thats overwhelming without any extra sounds (just voice and one instrument or just an instrument and no voice). for me michael jackson was a genius in doing this with his voice. listen to thriller and you know what i mean. it's overwhelming how he plays with his voice and in reaction to that with the listeners feelings.
hope i didn't cause any confusion with my explanation of whats a good song to me.
have to go playing some memory now...

rainy days
we haven't been online for almost two years but there are still around 1000 people popping by every month. really cool!!
i'm sitting here in the dark writing down ideas for all the things that come up when you start working on the band project again. many great plans have been made already i'm very excited about the upcoming year. i came up with a cool rock riff yesterday while nick was playing with lilian upstairs. the verse is finished already...sounds good. lego is lilians favorite game to play atm. everything she plugs together is a pfugzeig (meaning - flugzeug - meaning plane). so sweet!
xx maria
ps: this is how i look like atm.

we live in a super small village without any supermarket or so.
in front of our house we have a huge lake.

we also have horses in front of the house and sheep just a minute away.
we just started rehearsing...and we are working on new material.
more to come... xxx maria

summer 09
we also visited fran, nora and clay at their house in berlin and stayed there for a few days. this was the very first time i played the electric guitar since i gave birth to lilian. the perfect gift fran could give me. he is on holiday from travis right now and has a blog nick discovered a few days ago www.franhealy.com.
first ever post on new blog
it's wonderful having a baby it changes everything in your life! thats why you have heard really nothing from us in the past 1 1/2 years. we wanted to concentrate fully on this new adventure being mama and papa. we now start to have fun doing music again. so we started to create new plans, new music, a new webdesign and so on and so forth. everything is a big polaroid pic at the moment...just popping out of the camera. we'll see where this year will lead us to. you are welcome to join this little adventure.
xx maria
